The official dates for the 2019 excavations at the incredible Ness of Brodgar archaeological dig have been confirmed, so you have plenty of time to plan your trip to Orkney next summer.

If funding can be fully secured, diggers will be back at the sprawling site between Monday, July 1 and Friday, August 23. The annual open days will be held on Sunday, July 21 and Sunday, August 18.

As usual, the first and last few days of the project will see the protective covers removed and replaced, so if you’re keen to see archaeologists at work then it’s recommended to plan your visit accordingly.

It’s expected that guided tours will also be available once again. At the moment, they will be held at 11am, 1pm and 3pm on Monday to Fridays, and at 11am and 3pm on weekends.
